(PS... I've never written a fanfic before, let alone a chaptered one, it has also been about two years since I've written anything. So stick around maybe and it could get better thanks again).
Prologue - Eight years prior.
Sungmin stood in the playground waiting for the school bell to ring. It was the first day of school after the summer had just finished.
His summer had not been the best one in his 10 years of living. In fact it had been his worst. And this day would be the beginning of all of the bad days that would ever happen to him.
Standing there minding his own business he heard his name being called, no not called, yelled. Aggressively.
"Yah! Lee Sungmin" he heard it once again, more aggressive and filled with hatred.
He put it down to someone trying to play a trick on him, in which he would look up and nobody would be looking in his direction.
But the next time his name was called "Yah! Lee Sungmin. You bastard".
He looked up to see a slightly taller boy, with thick, wavy brown hair glaring at him. Eyes filled with all the hatred the boy could muster. Sungmin looked around as if to check, that nobody else, by coincidence, had the same name. He then pointed at himself with a confused and shocked look on his face; he mouthed "Me?"
The boy couldn't believe Sungmin's nerve. Of course he meant him. This made him snap, and so he charged towards Sungmin tackling him to the ground. He strategically pinned Sungmin's hands to the floor with his knees, and put all the power he had in his body into the punches that would follow, aiming them at the others face.
"Stop! Yah! What are you doing?" was all Sungmin could come up with as his face was hit with brute force, he tried to kick the boy off but nothing worked.
It wasn't long before a teacher caught sight of the brawl, and ran over to break it up, pushing past the crowd that had formed. He pulled the taller boy off of Sungmin.
"Cho Kyuhyun! Stop this immediately" he yelled at the still thrashing boy.
Sungmin slowly raised himself from the ground, coughing up a piece of his tooth that had been snapped in the attack. Through his own tears he looked up at Kyuhyun, and saw him crying too.
"From now on" Kyuhyun started "We're enemies. I hate you and I hate your family" he shouted, his voice cracking as he started to cry and dragged away by his shirt to the schools office.
Shin Donghee who had just arrived looked at his best friend "what happened to you?" he questioned looking the bloodied mess that was Sungmin.
"Can you just take me to the nurse's office please" his voice shaking through his sobs. Donghee nodded and put his arm around Sungmin, leading him to the nurse's office, not questioning Sungmin at all.
What Sungmin had done to make Kyuhyun snap like that, he did not know. But he knew now that he had an enemy for life.
Chapter 1. (The present)
"Here we go again" Sungmin sighed as he stood, disappointment written on his face as he looked up at the gates of his high school. Another term had just begun and Sungmin was yet again not thrilled with being there.
His thoughts were disturbed when he felt a nudge on his shoulder, he looked slowly to see his friend Donghee smiling at him "you're not complaining again are you?"
"Me?" he started his voice filled with sarcasm, as he and Donghee made their way into the school ground "why would I do that? I love it here" he said throwing his arms in the air with faux excitement.
"Aren't we the snaky one this morning" Donghee said shaking his head, they slowly but surely walked towards the school entrance. Where they met their other friend Hyukjae, smiling widely, his gums on show.
Sungmin nodded at Hyukjae as he made his way to his locker, retrieving his indoor shoes from the small compartment "how was your break then?" he asked him as he set himself on the bench to put his shoes on, knowing the answer that Hyukjae was about to give.
"It was amazing. I spent practically all my time with Donghae, he's so nice you know" Sungmin smiled to himself.
"Well I got to go" Donghee started "You know what Mr. Choi, is like if we're late" he said backing away and smiling at his friends.
"See you at lunch" Sungmin smiled and waved as Donghee turned on his heel and made his way to his classroom, he looked up at Hyukjae "you ready?" he asked him, to which Hyukjae nodded.
For the next five minutes of Sungmin's life, he listened to Hyukjae go on about his boyfriend. Sungmin made sure to agree and nod at all the appropriate times. He was amused by his friend's blatant love for his boyfriend. It was nice to see the joyous glint in his eye whenever he mentioned Donghae's name. Even so, he hoped that the rest of the day would not be filled with stories of what they got up to during the summer break.
They got to class just as the teacher arrived, and set themselves into their seats. Both sat by the window, Sungmin managed to snag the back seat from a boy whose name he couldn't remember. And Hyukjae sat in front of Sungmin.
The teacher, Miss Park, who looked worse for wear, rubbed her forehead before looking up at the class squinting as if the lights were too bright. Possible hangover, Sungmin guessed.
" she started, voice groggy and hoarse, she coughed to clear her throat "apparently, we have a new student joining us today. So when he arrives, I want
" she observed the class for an empty seat "Lee Sungmin" Sungmin looked up "can you share your books, and help him for today?"
Sungmin shrugged and nodded "Yes miss" he agreed, knowing better than to argue with a teacher with a possible hangover.
"Thank you" she leant back in her chair and did the register mentally, knowing the names and faces of her class, the classroom was filled with mutters as people turned around or stood by their friends speaking amongst themselves. However, the noise fell silent as an unrecognisable boy walked into the classroom and made his way to the desk at the front.
Miss Park looked up and forced a smile "you must be the new boy, introduce yourself please. Everybody listens up!" she announced.
The boy bowed before his introduction "hello, my name is Cho Kyuhyun" he started, his voice deep.
Sungmin looked up and squinted concentrating on the boys face.
"I look forward to getting to know you, please treat me kindly" Kyuhyun finished before bowing again
"Go sit next to Sungmin, he'll share his books and show you around at break".
Kyuhyun scanned the room as Sungmin put his hand up.
Kyuhyun then made his way to the empty desk next to Sungmin.
"Do what you want until the bell rings" Miss Park sighed as she leant back again covering her face with a book.
As Kyuhyun sat, Sungmin introduced himself.
"Hello I'm Lee Sungmin" he smiled "that's Lee Hyukjae" he said indicating to the boy in front as he turned around too.
"Lee Sungmin" Kyuhyun started "you went to SM Elementary
"Yes that's correct" Sungmin nodded, perplexed by Kyuhyun's knowledge.
"I can find my own way around the school, and I have my own books thanks" he stated coldly before facing the front.
Sungmin's smile descended, along with his brow. What was this guy's problem?
He turned his perplexed look towards Hyukjae, his face mirroring Sungmin's.
At lunch Hyukjae, Donghee and Sungmin stood in line at the cafeteria. It was Hyukjae who broke the silence.
"So what did you do to him?" Hyukjae asked, just as confused as Sungmin was.
Donghee looked up at both of them "who did what to whom?"
"Sungmin did something to this new kid in our class" he answered matter-of-factly.
"No I didn't
at least I don't think I did. I can't remember ever seeing him" Sungmin shrugged.
"Are you sure Sungmin? You know what you're like when you're drunk" Donghee pointed out, remembering a few times that Sungmin had acted carelessly when they drank together.
"Yeah like that time you
" Hyukjae started before Sungmin stopped him.
"Hyukjae" he said loudly, making Hyukjae jump slightly "we agreed not the bring that up ever again" Sungmin said through gritted teeth.
"You must've done something" Donghee said walking up to the serving area as he indicated to the meal he wanted to have.
Hyukjae and Sungmin followed, and did the same. After they had paid they found themselves a place to sit.
Sungmin frustrated face still spread across his face "I really can't think of a reason".
"Maybe he doesn't like your face" Donghee said whilst eating, pointing a spoon too close to Sungmin's face making him go cross-eyed.
"I doubt that
" Sungmin replied pushing the spoon to the side "you can't dislike someone just because they might have a strange face. And anyways, I have a nice face
I don't usually get complaints" Sungmin stated.
Hyukjae scoffed at the vain comment.
don't scoff. It's the truth" he said, his voice threatening.
"Donghae has a nice face" Hyukjae blurted out of nowhere.
Sungmin rolled his eyes, and threw a dumpling at his friends face.
Donghee laughed and put a arm around the attacked Hyukjae "smitten bastard".
That night as Sungmin sat in his dorm room, he sat at his computer, researching for a paper that was due the following week. He still couldn't get Kyuhyun out of his head. The blatant hatred that was written on his face, the obvious refusal of even being associated with Sungmin, for a reason Sungmin could not understand. He leant back in his chair, and sighed heavily. Twisting his mouth, as he stared at the paper that he had been scribbling on.
It frustrated him, Kyuhyun's hatred towards him, it annoyed him to the point that he couldn't even concentrate properly. He admitted and knew that the name Cho Kyuhyun rang alarms in his head, but he couldn't put the name to an event that he could think of. He had a tendency to push things in his head to the side, and forget about them. He shrugged and thought no longer of it; he looked at the time it read '23:56' his eyes widened slightly, before stretching his arms above his head and to the side "I'll do the rest tomorrow" he said to himself and made his way to his bed, as he lay there he cleared all thoughts of Kyuhyun from his head. And drifted off to sleep.
