The reason Sungmin doesn't quite know. However, soon after Kyuhyun moved away which made Sungmin completely forget about the incident. He pushed it back so far in his mind, that he doesn't even know why he recognizes the name Kyuhyun when the same person from eight years before moves back and joins his class. This begins the enemies relationship as Sungmin still fails to remember what caused Kyuhyun's hatred to build up so much.
(Sidenotes: They attend an all boys boarding school.Sungjin is older than Sungmin. ALSO I've never written a fanfic before, let alone a chaptered one, it has also been about two years since I've written anything. So stick around maybe and it could get better thanks again).
The evidence of morning was now making itself known on Sungmin’s face, and he did not appreciate it. He groaned, and turned onto his side to avoid the irritating light that was interrupting his sleep. However, now not only was the sun annoying but a new tapping on his forehead was interrupting him even more. He batted away whatever it was tapping him, and slightly opened an eye to see a pair of dark brown eyes peering at him from the edge of his bed.
He bolted straight up, his covers twisted around his body and looked again, to see Kyuhyun’s face full of pride at having woken up Sungmin.
“Finally” Kyuhyun sighed, as he pushed himself up off of the floor “it’s about time”.
Sungmin flattened his bed head, and yawned as he looked at Kyuhyun “why are you here?… How did you get in?”
Kyuhyun shrugged “We’re going to that festival today right?… And I let myself in, you need to start locking your door at night” he told him, as he grabbed Sungmin’s wrist and pulled him out of bed
Sungmin got up reluctantly, and stood lazily, he really hated waking up in the morning, especially on Saturdays.
Kyuhyun blushed slightly as he looked at Sungmin’s appearance, he hadn’t noticed that Sungmin was only wearing boxers.
Sungmin who didn’t care too much about people seeing in him little-to-none clothing, cooed at Kyuhyun when he saw him blush “You’re adorable… You also look really good today” he added when he looked at Kyuhyun’s attire, along with the hat he had bought for him.
“Thank you” Kyuhyun smiled.
Sungmin inspected the contents of his wardrobe as he grabbed the combination of dark blue jeans, grey canvas shoes, a t-shirt and a jacket. He walked over to his draw and grabbed a towel and some boxers, “I’ll take a shower… do you want to wait here?”
“Sure” Kyuhyun nodded as he settled himself at Sungmin’s desk, and opened Sungmin’s laptop.
“Password is ‘Minnie01’” Sungmin told him as he left the dorm room.
After Sungmin had returned, washed and dressed, he had a quick wander round throwing dirty clothes into his laundry hamper. He stood and stretched his back out, “ready to go?” he asked Kyuhyun, who was staring watching a video of a dog who could supposedly talk.
Kyuhyun nodded, as he shut down the laptop and stood to leave with Sungmin.
The pair reached the public girls school and walked inside the gates. The outside was surrounded by people, and stalls. Sungmin tip-toed slightly to peer over the crowd to find where Donghee and the rest of the group was.
“Over there Sungmin” Kyuhyun said as he pulled Sungmin through the crowd. As he was dragged, his hand began to slip from Kyuhyun’s hand.
“Kyu” he said loudly, as he reached forward again to regain hold of the hand. The other smiled, and continue pulling Sungmin through the sea of people towards their friends.
As they reached the edge, Kyuhyun let go, and walked forward casually Sungmin walking behind him. Donghae who had obviously been invited nodded when he saw Kyuhyun, and the others smiled.
Sungmin saw a shorter girl, with straight black hair smiling at the two “it’s nice to see you again oppa” she smiled at Sungmin as she bowed “I’m Nari” she introduced herself to Kyuhyun.
Kyuhyun bowed slightly “it’s nice to meet you, I‘m Kyuhyun”.
She tip-toed to kiss Donghee on the cheek, before looking to the group “I hope you won’t find me rude, I just wanted to meet everyone, but I have to get going. I’m helping in the student café… do come along” she smiled sweetly before retreating quickly into the crowd towards the building.
“You two took your time” Hyukjae said, hugging both Kyuhyun and Sungmin.
Donghee was looking incredulously at Sungmin which made him feel somewhat uneasy, “what-what is it hyung?” Sungmin stuttered.
“I’ve just noticed…” he started, cocking his head to the other side “you’re really short”.
“Yah!” Sungmin started, before shrugging and nodding “compared to him I am” he said indicating to Kyuhyun.
“Shall we look around now?” Donghae asked, almost bouncing into the centre of the group “can we?”
Donghee pushed himself off the bench he was sat on and thrust an arm upwards “lets go!” he exclaimed.
The festival was going well, the group went to the student café and saw Nari some more. She took her lunch break and sat with them, to catch up before going back to helping out.
Donghee had also been volunteered to help, much to Sungmin’s and Hyukjae’s amusement, especially when they saw the look on Donghee’s pouting face as they left him in the room.
The four left over, chose to wander around the school some more going into rooms where different classes were holding events. But one that caught their eye was a ‘haunted trail’.
Donghae jumped at the opportunity “can we do it?” he asked the group, his face that of a child.
A student who had overheard decided to cut in, “you have to go in pairs… still up for it?”
Hyukjae nodded “sure us two will go in and those two will go together” he smiled giving Sungmin the look, to which Sungmin poked his tongue out, and with that Donghae and Hyukjae disappeared behind the black curtain.
“Follow the green arrows” the student told Sungmin and Kyuhyun after she was sure that the other two had progressed further. Kyuhyun held Sungmin’s hand in his own, and pulled him through behind the curtain.
Behind the curtain was the usual set up, with rails of curtains setting out the trail. The lightning had a greenish tint, and they had made it foggy with smoke machines. The sides were decorated with bats, and spiders, and the usual decorations for this kind of thing.
Sungmin held on tight to Kyuhyun’s hand who was leading the way, Kyuhyun seemed more tense than Sungmin, these things really didn’t bother Sungmin. But he had learnt through research that Kyuhyun was uncomfortable in darkened areas, and he was easily frightened.
Kyuhyun suddenly jumped when a hand appeared from beneath the curtain grabbing Kyuhyun’s ankle, he cursed under his breath as Sungmin giggled to himself.
“Oh so brave” Sungmin teased, as they continued walking through the trail. Further on, they were visited by several people dressed up as ghosts, falling objects from the ceiling and people grabbing them. Which - much to Sungmin amusement - made Kyuhyun scream like a little girl “it’s nice to know that even tall and manly people can get scared this easily” he laughed.
“You get scare- AHH!” Kyuhyun jumped again, as a girl stepped out in front of them dressed and decorated as a zombie. They edged their way pass her, Kyuhyun bowing as if begging her not to kill him, whilst Sungmin smiled widely at her.
After several more terrifying encounters for Kyuhyun, the pair finally made it through. They saw Hyukjae and Donghae waiting outside, “how did you find it?” Hyukjae asked.
Sungmin shrugged “it was okay for me…” he giggled as he looked at Kyuhyun “I can’t say the same for him”.
“We thought you were being murdered” Donghae laughed “you’ve always hated those things”.
Kyuhyun nodded still shaken up, but relieved that the ordeal was over.
Hyukjae observed the two before, coughing and indicating between them both, Sungmin caught this and looked down noticing they were still holding hands. He blushed and quickly let go.
“Didn’t even notice” Sungmin tried to laugh it off.
Hyukjae smirked, and kicked off the wall before holding Donghae’s hand “lets go”.
“Right” Sungmin nodded as walked beside Hyukjae, with Kyuhyun beside him discretely brushing his fingertips against Sungmin’s hand.
The four continued walking, Sungmin trying to keep Hyukjae calm who was excited as he usually was when he had the opportunity to buy things. Donghae was talking to Kyuhyun as Sungmin chased Hyukjae away from a stall.
“Oh shit” Kyuhyun cursed, as Hyukjae and Sungmin approached them again.
“What is it?” Donghae asked.
“I think I left my wallet back at the haunted trail… Sungmin come with me?”
Sungmin saw a lump in his pocket that looked very much like a wallet, which caused him to burrow his eyebrows sceptically. He nodded nonetheless.
“We’ll meet you back at the café” Sungmin told Donghae and Hyukjae, as he walked behind Kyuhyun.
Kyuhyun grabbed Sungmin’s hand and pulled him into the bathroom.
“Yah what are you d-” Sungmin was cut off as he was pushed into the wall by the door gently “you haven’t lost your wallet… have you?” he half-asked knowingly.
“Yeah I lied, I know it’s only been a few days… but I really can’t take it anymore” Kyuhyun answered as he took Sungmin’s lips with his own. Sungmin kissed him back, still a bit nervous when it came to kissing another boy. Kyuhyun was cupping his face gently stroking his cheek with his thumb. He pulled away, and smiled. Even though it was a short and simple kiss, Sungmin’s head was spinning slightly and his cheeks were glowing.
“That‘ll last me a few days now” Kyuhyun nodded, grabbing Sungmin’s hand again pulling him outside the bathroom.
“Did you find it?” Donghae asked the pair as they returned to the group. Kyuhyun nodded, pulling his wallet out of his pocket.
“It must have fell out when I was braving the trail” he laughed.
“Or when you jumped behind me… begging the ghost not to kill you” Sungmin suggested.
Hyukjae covered his mouth trying to stifle his laughter “really?”
Sungmin nodded enthusiastically “it was pretty hilarious” he giggled out, as Kyuhyun gave him a nudge.
Later in the day, people were gathered outside around a large bonfire. And they gazed in awe, as fireworks were set and shot up into the sky, the different colours decorating the sky before disappearing. Sungmin was pleased to see Kyuhyun smiling in pure admiration. He really was a child. As Sungmin was shrugging his face into the scarf Kyuhyun had given to him he felt his pocket vibrate and he pulled his phone out and saw that the text was from Hyukjae:

It’s time to come clean.

About what? Sungmin replied, his face full of confusion.

Oh I don’t know. Maybe the fact that you can’t stop staring at Kyuhyun… or is it the fact that I saw you holding hands when you left me and Donghae

Sungmin’s ear started to burn “Shit…” he thought to himself. Sungmin didn’t know how to reply, so he pretended to be waiting for the reply and looked up at the sky feigning ignorance, as he watched the fireworks “so Nari” Sungmin started out of nowhere “this really is a awesome festival…” he said leaning forward to look at her.
Nari who was also a bit taken aback by the sudden compliment, bowed her head “thanks, we tried our best”.
“No kidding” Donghee scoffed “you were so stressed, I thought you’d tear your hair out”.
She giggled and nudged Donghee “thank you anyway Sungmin-oppa… Will you come again next year?”
“Definitely” Sungmin agreed, and smiled. But he was once again distracted as his phone starting playing his ringtone, without looking he answered.
“Sungmin… You have to come home” his mother spoke urgently down the phone, her voice cracking obvious that she was in between having a panic attack and bawling her eyes out “it’s Sungjin… please come home”
“What happened?” Sungmin asked, trying to calm his mother down knowing she would often get panicky over small situations.
“There was an accident at his work… he’s in hospital”
This made Sungmin stand up instantly, the others looked at him. Kyuhyun looking anxiously at him.
“Everything okay hyung?” Hyukjae asked, his voice concerned as he saw the look on Sungmin’s face.
All Sungmin could answer was “I… I have to go. I’ll call you.. Or text you” and with that, and not with a single look back he started sprinting to the direction of his home.
