(Sidenotes: They attend an all boys boarding school.Sungjin is older than Sungmin. ALSO I've never written a fanfic before, let alone a chaptered one, it has also been about two years since I've written anything. So stick around maybe and it could get better thanks again).
For Sungmin, the world had stopped and so did his brain. He froze against the concrete pillar of the bridge, palms flat against it, his eyes wide and his heart beating a little faster than it should‘ve been.
Kyuhyun was kissing him, Cho Kyuhyun… was… he finally snapped out of it.
He turned his face so Kyuhyun’s lip brushed his cheek before ducking down and out of Kyuhyun’s way.
Kyuhyun bit his lip and turned to face Sungmin, not able to look him in the eye.
Sungmin held his fingertips to his mouth, shaking his head slightly “why did you do that?” he asked, his voice a slightly higher pitch due to shock.
Kyuhyun scoffed, looking at his feet “you told me to”.
“I did no such thing” Sungmin denied, he didn’t ever remember telling Kyuhyun to kiss him.
“You told me to go up to the person I liked and let him know. That’s what I did” Kyuhyun replied, feeling all the more embarrassed.
Sungmin stood with his mouth agape unable to say anything, all that came out were the attempts of some words “bu.. I… wha… no….” his brow furrowed “but why did you…” he started unable to finish the sentence.
“You really are an idiot” Kyuhyun scoffed, biting his lip again in frustration, he took a step forward to grab hold of Sungmin’s hand.
Sungmin pulled it away “don’t touch me… you can’t go around kissing people” he said walking away from Kyuhyun.
“Please” Kyuhyun called as he tailed Sungmin.
“Kyuhyun I mean it…” Sungmin warned.
Kyuhyun caught up with him and grabbed his wrist, to which the other turned round and snapped his wrist from Kyuhyun’s grasp “just don’t” he snarled through gritted teeth “I was fine!” he exclaimed making Kyuhyun jump a little “my life was fine. I was happy with the way I was. Then you…” Sungmin threw his hand in Kyuhyun’s direction “you came along… and hated me eventually I was fine with you hating me. Then I was okay with being your friend, but this…” he took a step forward, and pushed Kyuhyun’s chest, whilst tears of confusion starting forming and his voice starting to break “you’re a jerk, stop messing with my head. I was happy forgetting things, I wanted to forget them because they hurt… quit making me so unsure of myself” he sniffled slightly, as he looked down trying to hold back the tears.
After a moment of silence, Kyuhyun’s disappointed was clear in his eyes as the tears also started emerging.
“So where do we go from here?” Kyuhyun finally said, his voice quiet.
“Lets just go back to you hating me… it was easier” Sungmin replied, he nodded once and rubbed his lips as he turned around and left Kyuhyun standing alone.
“I can’t” Kyuhyun whispered, knowing Sungmin was too far away by now.
“How was it?” Hyukjae exclaimed, jumping onto Sungmin before walking beside him.
Sungmin jumped and looked at him in worry, a somewhat guilty glint in his eyes “how was what?”
“You went to the river last night with Kyuhyun right?” Hyukjae furrowed his brow, surprised by his friends response.
“Yeah…” Sungmin bit his lip, before composing himself and look straight ahead “it wasn’t so bad, we just chilled walked a bit then came back to school”.
“Anything else happen?” Hyukjae pressed wanting to know every detail.
“No… Why?… What did Kyuhyun tell you?” Sungmin asked wide-eyed, making it obvious that he was hiding something.
Hyukjae raised an eyebrow “no… What happened?” he asked excitedly, almost bouncing as they walked toward into library.
“Nothing happened” Sungmin denied “I got to study… so no more questions” he told the younger male as they made their way to their usual spot.
Throughout the day Sungmin had avoided all questions about the previous night, he had also been avoiding Kyuhyun as best as he could. Thankfully it was Sunday so there were no lessons, he could hibernate in his room or hide in the library. But when Sungmin looked at it, he found his behaviour to be stupid and immature.
As he stood in the bathroom, he looked angrily at himself in the mirror “Grow up Sungmin” he told himself as he twisted the faucet to proceed to wash his hands, he looked up at the mirror again to see Kyuhyun in the reflection. He near enough had a heart attack, he spun around and stared wide eyed at Kyuhyun who was leaning against the wall. Sungmin said nothing, he couldn’t bring himself to produce an coherent sentence together.
“Sungmin” Kyuhyun started, his voice was low and rough, he looked up, the dark circles from a bad night sleep evident on his face.
“I-I-” Sungmin stammered “I have to go” he said quickly as he briskly made his way out of the bathroom not looking at Kyuhyun.
Sungmin flinched as something hit his forehead lightly, he looked down to find Donghee and Hyukjae staring at him.
“I asked you a question” Donghee chuckled “are you busy next Saturday?” he asked, emphasizing each word, somewhat patronising his friend.
Sungmin twisted his mouth in thought “I don’t think so why?” he sadi as he looked down to continue writing his essay.
“It’s Nari’s school festival, they’ll have a fireworks display in the evening too… did you two want to come?” Donghee asked.
Hyukjae nodded an excited grin spreading on his face, Sungmin looked at him and nodded “sure… I’ll go” he replied smiling too.
Donghee groaned as he stared back at his textbook “I hate English”
“Need help?” Sungmin asked, laughing slightly as it made a change to not having to help Hyukjae for once.
“Yeah please. If you don’t mind” Donghee laughed rubbing the back of his neck.
Sungmin pushed himself up from the bed and sat himself next to Donghee.
“What’s up with you Kyu?” Siwon asked his roommate who had been staring at a a cup of coffee for the past five minutes.
Kyuhyun looked up and puffed his cheeks out before deflating the air in his mouth “nothing” he denied “just stuff on my mind”.
Siwon stood up and sat beside Kyuhyun on the floor, he leant against the wall and laid his legs straight “want to talk about it… my mum always says it’s best to talk about it” he nodded.
Kyuhyun looked at Siwon and let out a heavy sigh deciding he was right “have you ever liked someone…” Kyuhyun started “you don’t quite understand why you like them. But you feel like you want to see them, not because they’re pretty, or because you want them in your bed or anything. You just want to spend time with them, because you feel like you can really… truly act like yourself. You don’t have to pretend, and just that feeling makes you feel comfortable… safe… warm even. And because you missed that feeling so much, you want to feel it even more… therefore being around them becomes a priority” he sighed “sounds corny right?” he scoffed and laughed without humour.
“A little” Siwon admitted “but I understand where you’re coming from” he nodded, as he looked at the younger male “have you made it clear to them yet?”
Kyuhyun tilted his head back to lean it against the wall “that’s the problem… I did. Now he won’t even look at me” he shut his eyes.
“I see” Siwon mused slightly “maybe… wait he?… he’s in this school?… who?” he asked feeling somewhat excited, it wasn’t unusual to find same-sex couples in the school but it was exciting to find out that one might have a crush on another student, especially if it was your friend.
“Sungmin” Kyuhyun admitted, he felt the heat rising to his cheeks.
“Lee Sungmin… he’s in your homeroom right? I thought you hated him” Siwon questioned.
Kyuhyun nodded in reply “I did… but we became friends. And… well…” he said unable to say it.
“You started liking him” Siwon finished the sentence for him to which Kyuhyun nodded “and… he doesn’t like you back”.
Kyuhyun made a face and looked at Siwon scowling slightly “yeah… thanks for reminding me”
“Maybe tell him again, you can’t give up” Siwon nudged him.
“Persistence is annoying though, I don’t want to annoy him and freak him out otherwise he’ll just get pissed off” Kyuhyun whined and slid down so he was laying down.
Siwon chuckled at the childish behaviour before his face became more serious “you’ll only feel worse if you don’t try” he stood up and grabbed Kyuhyun’s hands before pulling the latter up. Kyuhyun stood up reluctantly.
Siwon decided to push him towards the door and opened it he pushed Kyuhyun out of the room “go and let him know again”.
“Bu-but… Hyung” Kyuhyun tried to retaliate as Siwon shut the door on Kyuhyun and locked it from the inside.
“Go” Siwon ordered.
Kyuhyun obeyed and shuffled his way towards Sungmin’s room ‘this’ll never work’ he told himself as he slowly approached the others bedroom. He sighed and lifted his hand up, before tapping on the door twice with his knuckle.
His head snapped up as he heard the door handle turn and click.
